An Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), is a medical device that tracks the heart rate and makes necessary automatic changes to the heart rate to keep it at the required rhythm. It is a battery- operated device that can be implanted below the skin. The ICD is connected to the heart by a network of thin wires. Arrhythmias and rapid heartbeat if detected is immediately brought back to normal by sending a burst of electric stimulus, generated by the ICD device. An ICD can be either a single chamber or a dual- chamber.
